Cause

Heartworm is caused by a parasite called dirofiliaria immitis. It is spread to dogs, and recently also the cats, by a mosquito.

History

Many dogs and cats do not have any symptoms until heart failure progresses. So, we emphasize the need for yearly testing. When symptoms occur, they can include:
  ¡á Poor appetite
  ¡á Weight loss
  ¡á Coughing
  ¡á Lethargy
  ¡á Difficult breathing
  ¡á Exercise intolerance
  ¡á Distended abdomen
These are the symptoms of general heart failure, yet they can also occur in other diseases besides heartworm.
Kit Test

Seasonal Kit Test is required in every March.
